How to Order
Please remember, we really are a blacksmith shop. We much prefer to make hardware than re-make it … and we really don’t like to ship more than once.
It takes a collaborative effort to get it right the first time, so we strongly urge you to call us before placing your order. Even if you feel you don’t have any questions, please call. We can firm up availability, and it’s always better to finalize the details up front than to mis-order and have to return hardware.
The order process
Define your situation
Use the installation guide and hardware selector to find how your shutters will hang.
Measure
Offset, casing width, shutter width, stile and rail widths, number of windows. A photo or a sample of existing hardware is worth a thousand words.
Build a quote list
Add hinges, pintles, dogs and locks from the product pages, then send the list with the quote request form — or just call.
Confirm the details
We review your measurements, recommend standoffs and throw, and confirm finish, current pricing, payment terms and lead time in writing.
We forge, finish and ship
Your hardware is made to order in our Pennsylvania shop, finished, packed and shipped to you with appropriate fasteners.
By phone at 610-948-5116, by fax at 610-948-9629, by email to [email protected], or with our contact and quote form. There’s no online checkout: we confirm everything with you before we start, and no payment details are ever collected on this website.
For each window: hinges and pintles (two pairs for a pair of shutters — one left, one right), a pair of hold-opens, and a lock set. Tell us your pattern choices, finish (e-coat standard, galvanized, bare or stainless), and the dimensions listed in Standards & Finishes.
- Heavy hinges and pintles: priced and sold separately, by the pair
- Mid-weight sets: by the pair, 2 hinges + 2 pintles, left or right hand
- Shutter dogs: by the pair, lag mount included
- Locks: by the set, one window
Direct from the shop: 201 North 4th Ave. #5, Royersford, PA 19468. Buying direct means you pay for craftsmen’s time and materials, not middleman profits — and you know the hardware is genuinely American made. Imported copies of our hardware are sold by some shutter makers; ask about origin before you buy.
Early — before you order or build your shutters. Shutters and hardware considered together early in planning save time and money; the hinge standoff and throw affect how the shutters must be sized. Mechanical galvanizing adds about two weeks, and custom work takes longer than stock, so we quote a lead time with every order.
Homeowners, architects, builders, shutter makers, custom mill shops, preservation organizations and government agencies all order from us. Whoever is closest to the measurements should be on the call — often the carpenter or shutter maker.
Ordering questions
Can I order online?
Not with a shopping cart, on purpose. Build a quote list as you browse and send it with the contact form, or call. We confirm measurements, finish, current pricing and lead time with you before anything is forged.
Why do you insist on a phone call?
We are a blacksmith shop. We much prefer to make hardware than re-make it, and we really don’t like to ship more than once. A short call firms up availability and catches the details that cause mis-orders.
Are the prices on the website current?
They are reference prices from our price sheet. Steel and finishing costs change, so we always confirm current pricing in your written quote.
How is the hardware priced?
Hinge and pintle sets are priced by the pair — enough to hang one shutter. Shutter dogs are priced by the pair, and locks by the set, enough for one window.
Can I return hardware?
Stock items in original condition can usually be returned by arrangement — call us first. Hardware made to your dimensions is not returnable unless it is defective. See our Shipping & Returns policy for details.
